Thought for the month of February 2003
It was my intention to commence year 2003 with Saints of
the Month. Unfortunately I was struck down rather
suddenly with a heart attack on the 17th December
2002 and therefore all my plans were brought to a
somewhat sudden halt. I would, however, like to express
my thanks for the many 'get well' messages from my
friends at All Saints and St. Phillips (coffee morning)
and I dedicate the following words to all those who wish
me well:
Richard
Friends
Of all felicities, the most charming is that of a firm
and gentle
friendship. It sweetens our cares, dispels our
sorrows, and counsels us in
all extremities. Nay, if there were no comfort in
it than the bare exercise
of so generous a virtue, even for that single reason a
man would not be
without it; it is a sovereign antidote against all
calamities - even against
the fear of death itself.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Philosopher (4 BC - AD 65)
My Saint for January would have been Francis de Sales (b.
21 Aug 1567). St.
Polycarp was to be my choice for February.
