All Saints Restoration

Work should start on the South Roof in the middle of April to last about 12 weeks. the total cost is some £32,000. This work requires scaffolding over St Catherine's Chapel so that services which usually take place there will be held elsewhere in the church. We are negotiating for work to be done to some corbels inside the church at the same time.  We await news from English Heritage on our application for a grant for more major work to the north roof. If successful we hope to start this in the autumn.

Many thanks to all who helped with the coffee morning at the Town Hall on Saturday 23rd March and especially to Mary Shaw who organised everything. On that day we re launched the Friends of All Saints. If you have not received a leaflet about this please take one from All Saints Church. Please take more copies for family and friends too as it will all help the work of restoration.

St. Philip’s Restoration

At the PCC meeting on 21st March it was agreed to accept the revised contract for the major repairs to the tower and steeple. The new total contract price is for just under £131,000. £11,000 of this still needs to be raised. Certain items from the contract were omitted in the interests of having a manageable price. We will have to continue raising funds for these works plus the further considerable work  the architect has identified as needing to be done. It is wonderful that so much has been raised so far and that the work may start at the end of April. In the course of the work, it may be found that the condition of the tower is better than anticipated in which case there will be savings or in a worse condition in which case the cost may increase or work left to be done later.
