Spring Singalong
On four mornings at the end of March and beginning of
April, All Saints church was full with some 1500 infants
and also their teachers and families. Helen MacGregor led
and enthused this vast assembly in animal songs - some
very real, some imaginary. Many involved movements
undertaken with much happiness and creativity. Some songs
had wonderful and new words to be learnt, others involved
numbers, some had children in the front putting animals
into a pond and disappearing.
Schools had the opportunity to sing on their own at the
front of the church. Some had up to 120 children, other
smaller ones only 20. It was wonderful to see 7 year olds
announce the name of their song so clearly and
confidently to that great company of persons as well as
to hear the individual school songs. In all 26 schools
took part this year. They were:-
All Saints C of E Primary School
Barming Primary School
Boughton Monchelsea Primary School
Coxheath Parimary School
Detling C of E Primary School

On each
day either the present mayor or previous mayors attended
and gave a vote of thanks and encouraged donations at the
door to Demelza House Children's Hospice. We have been
able to send a cheque for £422 to Demelza House. Dan
Daley greatly enjoyed leading a procession of children
around the church singing, 'I'm a spring chicken', all
joyfully moving their wings. Lots of people had to work
well together for this great event. So many thanks to
Lionel Marchant and his team as well as to the teachers
who taught the songs at school. For very many of the
children this was a rare experience of singing in church.
