Maidstone Area Infant Schools
Spring Singalong 2006
The Singalong was arranged for the children of the Maidstone Area Infants Schools, and was held on the mornings of the 24th to the 28th April. This year’s theme was ‘Sing Around Holidays’ and during the week over 1,500 children took part. Everyone had a lot of fun, including the Mayor and Mayoress, the Deputy Mayor, and Cllr Dan Daley who took the lead in a very lively Hornpipe!

The Singalong was led by Helen MacGregor who was accompanied by Lionel Marchant on the organ, and by Elizabeth Marchant on the piano. Their colourful ‘I Do Love To Be Beside The Seaside’ brought the Wurlitzer Organ into All Saints and the church seemed to be transformed from Kentish Ragstone into the iron of Blackpool Tower! Fans of ‘The Seekers’ were delighted by the closing number “Morningtown Ride”.
The themed decorations and the evocative beach hut were created by Brian Cannell, Roger and Sue Manuell, and their team of helpers. The colourful banners were produced by the children in their schools.
Each Singalong had an audience of parents and friends who came to support the children in their music making. At the end of each Singalong a retiring collection was taken in aid of Demelza House Children’s Hospice. The total amount collected was £468.20. We are very grateful to everyone who helped in so many ways to make the event such a success – specially the children.

The theme for next April will be: Sing Around Spaceships. It will be a major challenge to see whether the Stable/Beach Hut can be converted into the Mission Control Centre! The donkey has now departed on his own well-earned summer holidays!
