Work is a four letter word For many of us work is a major part of our lives; frequently (rightly or wrongly) our jobs define the way we view ourselves and the way others see us. For some people work is an exciting challenge, an endless source of stimulation and fulfilment. For others work provides the necessary resources for a decent life and a pension (though as we are fast coming to realise, pensions no longer offer the security we were once led to believe!) and for many work is the stuff which interrupts our lives in the gap between weekends. In some parts of the world work is a relentless physical struggle for tiny rewards whilst in other parts of the world some people earn vast salaries for little obvious effort. So why do we do it, what is it for and can we ever reach that ‘work-life balance’ we hear so much about? So many questions and so few obvious answers. Starting in September a group will get together to discuss some of the issues we face around work, its effects on us as individuals and as members of the church community. The group will meet for two hours once per month - on the first Thursday of the month - starting on Thursday 4 September. Details of the meetings will be publicised in the notices in our churches nearer the time. It is proposed that each meeting should take a theme (agreed at the previous meeting) and that the venue will rotate around people’s homes. Come along - and bring a friend! The first meeting on 4 September will be at Cherry House, 22 Franklin Drive, Weavering and will begin at 8pm.
