We held our July Meeting on Teapot Island and enjoyed a warm, sunny day there with the chance to eat lunch outside.  Getting to Teapot Island did not involve a ferry crossing, as it is a small island, in the middle of the river, close to the old bridge at Yalding. On the island is a café, tables by the waterside and a museum of 3750 novelty teapots. As the photographs show after lunch there was plenty of time for a chat and an ice cream if you still had room after your lunch. Considering the recent weather we were very fortunate to have so much summer sunshine and no wind.

Last month many of our members attended the Deanery Service, held at St Paul’s. Brenda Lawson, our Diocesan President, was there for the dedication of the new Deanery Banner. After the service St Paul’s Branch provided very tasty refreshments and there was plenty of time to meet friends from other branches.

We meet again on Tuesday September 14th in All Saints at 2.30pm, when we will be sharing ‘Summer Memories’, recent or from the more distant past.   Later in the month we have another evening meeting at St Philip’s on Tuesday September 21st.  Richard Dove, a professional filmmaker, will show a film and talking about his recent visit to a children’s hospice in Romania.

To celebrate the International Year of the Family the Mothers’ Union is holding a Picnic for children and their families/carers on Saturday September 11th from 3-5pm in Dane John Gardens in Canterbury.   You just turn up with your picnic and everybody is welcome.   There will be children’s entertainers and face painting and of course the ice cream van.
