Poems and Prayers for August
Asking Lord Sure future Sing hosanna! Shady Woods Heavenly Love and Affection In Thee Things Lovely
Asking
I never go forth to meet a new day Without asking God as I kneel down to pray To give me the strength and courage to be As patient with others as He is with me! Anonymous
Lord
Help me to live this day Quietly, easily, To lean on thy great strength Trustfully, restfully, To await the unfolding of Thy will Patiently, joyously, To face tomorrow Confidently, courageously. St Francis of Assisi
Sure future
God is in every tomorrow, Therefore I live for today, Certain of finding at sunrise Guidance and strength for the way; Power for each moment of weakness, Hope for each moment of pain, Comfort for every sorrow, Sunshine and joy after rain. Anonymous
Sing hosanna!
Some people don't feel they can sing loudly in church, as they find keeping in tune difficult (if not impossible). This poem is dedicated to them.
Praise the Lord in merry song, Praise him, praise him all day long. But what of me? I cannot sing – I have no melody to bring. But in the Bible, joy of joys, The Lord says: “Make a joyful noise!” Anonymous
Shady Woods
When the sun is shining overhead 'Tis nice to make a leafy bed Deep in the shady wood; To lie and gaze towards the sky Peeping through the leaves on high, Above the shady wood E M Adams
Heavenly Love and Affection
Heavenly love and affection to you, The saintly love and affection imbue, The angels' love and affection as dew, The love and affection of the sun, The love and affection of moonbeam spun, Be to you in your lives each day and night, To keep you from harm, oppression and spite, Of from them that harm, that oppress, that spite. From Poems of the Western Highlanders
In Thee
May everything in this my being be directed to Thy glory And may I never despair. For I am under Thy hand, And in Thee is all power and goodness. Dag Hammarskjold
Things Lovely
Have you ever wondered at The beauty of a tree? The tiny velvet rosebud, The humming fluffy bee? Furry fledglings in the nest, The daisies small and shy, A tinted sunset in the west, A dainty butterfly. A slender blade of grass so green - It is not much you say. But it was made by hand Unseen; Could man make that today? Kathleen Gillum
