John the Divine - 27th December

The last book of the Bible, the Revelation or Apocalypse, was written by John, who describes himself there as our brother, sharing tribulation with patient endurance, exiled on the island of Parmos "because of preaching the  word of God and the evidence about Jesus". His book is a superb conclusion to the Holy Scripture.

The book of Genesis begins the account of man's spiritual odyssey by describing our expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The book of Revelation is a vision of our restoration to Paradise. “Let him who is thirsty come and take the waters of life."

It is in the book of Revelation that we find the compassionate invitation of Jesus to the world "Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come to him and eat with him, and he with me. He who conquers, I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne."

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and every one that loves us born of God and knows God. See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called the children of God; and so we are".

(John the Divine: 27th December)

Prayer from the Revelation of John the Divine.

'I looked and behold a great multitude which no man could number, from all  tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the  Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, crying out  in a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and  unto the Lamb,"
