Parish Carol Singing - Christmas 2004

‘Come back nearer Christmas!’ is a cry seldom heard by the carol singers in the parish - firstly because they only sing very close to Christmas; secondly because their enthusiastic singing is often a welcome and much-anticipated feature of life in the parish.  On three evenings before Christmas groups from our church communities gather to sing around the parish, to tell the good news of Christmas and to collect money for local charities.

Over recent years parish carol singing has, very properly, become closely associated with our schools; on two of the three nights this year children from the schools will accompany the adults and will hopefully teach their elders some of the newer carols they have learned at school.  The atmosphere is invariably excited and each year newcomers are amazed to experience the thrill of singing carols - both familiar and unfamiliar - in parts of this huge parish that they wouldn’t necessarily normally visit.

So please, ‘Come nearer Christmas’ to join us in this very traditional and very important part of our parish life.

This year’s dates are:

Thursday 16 December                        All Saints School
Monday 20 December                          St Stephen’s School
Tuesday 21 December                          St Philip’s Church

The singers set out each evening at 7pm and finish exactly two hours later; every evening ends with a chance to thaw out with a warming bowl of soup or hot chocolate and to chat to new and old friends.
