All Saints Church, Maidstone Restoration and Development Trust was set up in 1999 to administer the task of the restoration of the Parish Church of the County Town of Kent and to promote the development of the building for the benefit of the local community by providing up to date facilities to cope with the many events that take place in the church throughout the year.
All Saints Church is the largest of a group of medieval buildings sited by the River Medway. The other buildings dating from the same period include the Master's House, the Archbishops' Palace, the Gateway and the Archbishops' Stables (now the carriage museum).
The following work has a high priority for attention:
Renewing the lead roof and the gutters to
make sure water gets well away from the building The illustration shows temporary repairs to the lead on the nave roof of the church. |
|
Rewiring and improving the lighting. The illustration shows the current lighting arrangements |
|
Restoring the stonework. The illustration shows lead installed into the stonework of the window as a temporary measure to stop rain water seeping into the window and surrounding stonework |
The cost of this work is likely to be in excess of £2M. It will take time and energy to raise the necessary funds. The work will have to be phased over a number of years. We will urgently seek grants from English Heritage and other organisations that will donate money to us for these purposes . The parish has found almost £100,000 from its own resources. We seek regular donations over a period of time from members of our congregation, friends from wider Maidstone and beyond, from all in the community of Kent who cherish the parish church of their county town.
The most helpful way to contribute to this great enterprise is to give in such a way that the taxes we pay will help the work. This is by giving under the Government Gift Aid scheme . Click here and you will find a form ready for you to complete
The first work we must undertake is the repair of the roof to prevent leaks which are decaying the interior fabric. This is likely to cost in excess of £1M. We intend to start this work in September 2000. The funds for this are urgently needed. Please do what you can to help.
