Going to Bethlehem Advent Club 2003

46 children arrived on Saturday 13th December at St Philip’s for two days of fun and activities.  The ages ranged from 5 to 13 from many schools in the town and we split into 4 groups: angels, kings (and princesses), shepherds and family.  Each group made their own masks, crowns, halos and wings and did cooking for all the groups.  We played team games and parachute games.

On Sunday during the 11.00am Eucharist service, with the help of Janice Underdown, we enacted the journey to Bethlehem and the visit of the angels, shepherds and kings and ended with a splendid tableau.  The story included songs by the children for each group to well known nursery rhyme tunes – the singing was amazing and Away in a Manger brought a tear to the eye of many in the congregation.  Our thanks to Brian Neaves for coming to rehearse and playing for us on Sunday.

The parish youth committee would also like to express their gratitude to all the adults who were able to come and help over the weekend, to those who manned the door, cooked, did craft work and acted as buddies – thank you.
