All Saints with St Philip Mothers’ Union

All branches of the Mothers’ Union have recently had their Triennial Elections and some changes have taken place in our branch.

After more than two decades of leading our branch Vera Alflatt has decided to take a less rigorous role.  We all thank her for her immense service to our branch and to the Mothers’ Union as a whole and are delighted that she will continue to be a Committee Member and so be able to offer us the benefit of her experience.

During 2004 we all hope that our branch will grow and become a bigger asset to our parish, offering fellowship, interesting meetings, prayer groups and practical help where needed.

We have decided to hold some meetings in the evenings so that people who are unable to attend afternoon meetings can have the opportunity in joining us.  We welcome all at our meetings, whether you are a man or a woman, married or unmarried, parent or not – all can and do meet at the Mothers’ Union.  From my recent experience of the Diocesan AGM and Christmas Market in Canterbury, those attending were a very cheerful group drawn from all these categories.  We spent the whole morning thoroughly enjoying ourselves, by sharing our faith and experiences.

In the last two months members of our branch have had a busy time.  Four members attended the AGM and Christmas Market in Canterbury in November and then four more went to the MU Advent Carol Service in the Quire of the cathedral in December.  We held our annual Christmas Tea with Readings and Poems in December and thirty members and friends enjoyed a Christmas Lunch at the Fox and Goose in Weavering Street.

On Tuesday 13th January at 2.30pm in All Saints we will hold our next meeting.  The subject is ‘What would you bring?’.  We know what the Wise Men brought to Jesus, but what would be appropriate to give to a child of an asylum-seeker in Kent in 2004?

We look forward to seeing you in 2005 and wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year.

Mary Shaw
