Day of Prayer at Westminster Abbey

Once a year Westminster Abbey closes to visitors on a Saturday for a day of prayer. This year it is to be on Saturday 14th January starting at 10.00am. No tickets are required. Just go to the main door at the west end of the Abbey between the two towers and tell the vergers you have come for the day of prayer and they will show you to the choir or transepts.

Usually there is an opening act of worship with perhaps three addresses. This year they are to be given by the Revd. John D. Miller, a former Moderator of the General assembly of the Church of Scotland on Three Mysteries: Incarnation, Crucifixion, Resurrection. In between the addresses there is quiet in the abbey and one is free to wander about as one pleases.

Coffee and soup are served in the cloisters. It’s good to bring a packed lunch and to wear warm clothes. The day end with Evensong sung at 3.00pm. I do commend this day to all members of our congregations. If you wish to know more, please ask Priscilla or myself.
