All Saints with St Philip Mothers
Union
We had a
wonderful year last year ending with a Christmas Tea and
a Christmas Dinner last month, as well as another
Christmas Tea at the St Pauls branch.
We
will begin the year with our Wave of Prayer at 9.30am on
Thursday 5th January. Immediately after this
we will be holding a Coffee Morning in aid of the MU
Overseas Fund. Please come along to this in the
refreshment area of All Saints Church at 10am on Thursday
5th January. This
fund provides the Literacy Programme which has
transformed many lives in Burundi, Malawi and the Sudan.
11,453 women have been accredited as now being literate
and numerate and at present 23, 269 are working to master
these skills. Women are not sent to school in these
countries as fathers will only pay for their sons to be
educated. Once the women are literate and numerate many
train to themselves become facilitators of the programme
and hence it grows. This means that more money is
continually needed for slates, chalk and some books.
Our
monthly meeting is on Tuesday January 10th at 2.30pm
in All Saints. The talk will be about Fair Trade and
there will be lots of free samples to taste. Everyone
is welcome at our meetings and of course we always find
time for a cup of tea and a chat.
If you
wish to find out more about the MU in this parish please
pick up a programme from our notice board at the back of
All Saints or ask Pam hocking if you are at St Philips
