An Open Invitation – Come and Join Us!!

Some 15 months ago a new house-group formed at the suggestion of certain members of All Saints’ and St Philips’ congregations.  After a while we began to call ourselves the Work and Life Group.  The members of this group support one another in the spirit of Christian fellowship to try to help each other balance the demands of work and personal life.  We meet in a different group member’s home on the first Thursday of each month between 8 pm and 10 pm where we share issues affecting us in our working lives and the way(s) they affect the balance of everything else we have to do.  Sometimes we act as sounding boards; other times we offer one another some practical suggestions.  Everything we discuss is kept in confidence within the group.

To date there has been a core membership of five with some other members from each congregation joining us occasionally.  All of the core group is agreed that our sessions have been very helpful (occasionally even cathartic!).

To date the format has remained unchanged, but we feel it will be important to move on and develop, to ensure the group maintains its vitality and value.  To this end we are looking at a slight change to the format of our monthly sessions which is likely to see us looking a little more to spiritual guidance without jettisoning the benefits of our otherwise largely secular discussions!  We also wish to reach out to others and through this note extend an invitation to anyone interested to join us and share in our future meetings.

Don’t be put off by the name of the group.  If like me you have retired; or perhaps you are at home much or all of your time looking after family members, whatever their ages and whatever yours, then you too will have a need to try to balance the competing demands of your responsibilities and commitments with a need to set aside time and space for yourself (quality time).  In fact you’d be doing the group a favour by bringing fresh perspectives to the subject of balancing work and life, whatever form that work takes!

Our next meeting will be held at Paul and Diane Fletcher’s home (Cherry House, 22 Franklin Drive, Weavering).  I have offered to coordinate arrangements for this meeting.  If you would like to join us on Thursday February 3rd please call me on 01622 761165.
