Maidstone Nightclub Chaplaincy

The Maidstone Nightclub Chaplaincy has gone through some major changes in the last 6 months or so, a lot of things have changed including a new steering group (introduced below) and the fact that Church Army are now handling the financial administration. Diana Greenfield has remained our full-time Nightclub Chaplain and is working closely with the new steering group to ensure that we have strong foundations for a long-term view of the project.

Despite many changes the project has continued to minister the clubbing community of Maidstone. A new full-time volunteer has joined the team Adam Smith a member of St Luke’s is found during the day serving coffee in Kymera and by night working alongside Diana serving the clubbers of Maidstone.

In September Diana was the speaker for Maidstone Grammar School’s whole school assembly in All Saints Church. Early in October Diana, Adam and Stuart a doorman from IKON went to St James Palace to meet Prince Edward and promote the work of the Nightclub Chaplaincy. Also in October and article appeared in the Times praising the work of the Nightclub Chaplaincy, which has generated a couple of radio interviews and other interest. Even attracting the attention of an American Christian production company. Diana is always looking to add new speaking engagements into her diary to come and unpack the work of the Nightclub Chaplaincy. Recently she has spoken at All Saints Church Loose, The Beacon Church, Shepway and Loose Baptist Church.

Most importantly the work in the club has continued. The Chaplaincy has been working in IKON on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights, meeting people, taking the occasional worried friend to hospital behind the ambulance, sitting with the sick, upset or distressed clubbers. Waiting with one pregnant clubber who appeared in the photo in the Times as she approached her due date.

Matthew Risher, Production Director of RadioU writes,

“I recently read an article on Times Online about Diana Greenfield and her involvement as Club Chaplain at Ikon in Maidstone. The host of our morning show forwarded the article’s link to the entire staff, and we were all completely encouraged by it. This is the type of stuff we’re all about, getting Jesus into the dark places where you just normally wouldn’t expect Him to be! This type of thing is right up our alley!”
