St Philip’s Wine & Wisdom Quiz Evening

Saturday March 12th

The evening went really well and the quiz ended in a very close-fought battle with the first three teams separated by just one point apiece after 10 Rounds with scores of 178, 177 and 176!

After expenses the event netted just over £350, so just over £175 apiece for St Philip's and for Maidstone Christian Care.

As reported in the March edition of Community, MCC evolved from soup runs to homeless people from the back of a car in 1986. With the aid of various grants they have recently begun to operate from new purpose-built accommodation just off Knightrider Street supporting rough sleepers and people needing help with re-settlement from homelessness into basic accommodation, etc. Although now a pretty substantial operation they still need (and are very grateful for) all the help they can get and it's the sort of work that's often rather low-profile, so it seemed a good idea to channel a bit their way, even though it's not mega-bucks.

With appeals for Tsunami victims, Red Nose Day, etc, these sort of charities tend to get overlooked. St Philips has now moved beyond immediate needs to keep it open, but inevitably with a building its age there are never-ending needs for maintenance and improvement, so to all who participated, all who helped and all who donated raffle prizes a Huge Thank You!

Watch out for the next quiz evening which will of course be publicised through the pages of Community!
