Great Music for Maidstone

Maidstone Symphony Orchestra has a mouth watering 94th Season beginning at Mote Hall, Maidstone Leisure Centre, on Saturday 16th October. Under the direction of its internationally-renowned conductor Brian Wright, MSO has a brilliant line up of soloists for the five concert season.

Returning to the MSO concert platform in October is pianist Ronan O'Hora to play Chopin's 1st Piano Concerto. There is also Respighi's famous 'Pines of Rome' and a heady sonic display of massed trumpets heralding Janacek's dazzling 'Sinfonietta'.

The cello playing son of a famous pianist, Adrian Brendel, will play Dvorak's ever popular concerto at the 4th December concert.   A sparkling overture by the newly appointed Master of the Queen's Musick, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, opens the concert and the organ like sounds of Cesar Franck's well loved Symphony will bring that evening to a close.

Kentish trumpeter Paul Beniston - principal of the London Philharmonic - is the soloist at
the 5th February 2005 concert playing the Hummel Trumpet Concerto.   Framing his performance are two highly evocative musical portraits, Mendelssohn's 'Hebrides Overture', and the recently published original version of Ralph Vaughan Williams' 'A London
Symphony'.

The brilliant young violinist Chloe Hanslip, winner of the Classical Brit 'Young Performer of the Year' award, comes to
Maidstone on 19th March 2005 to perform the much loved Elgar Violin Concerto. Spectacular sounds surround, with Ravel's stunning orchestration of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition' - the whole preceded by a spine tingling piece, 'Pan and Syrinx', from composer Carl Nielsen.

Completing the season will be a gala President's Benefit Concert, to help establish a Special Projects Fund for the centenary of MOS in 2011. Master pianist, and President of Maidstone Orchestral Society, John Lill, will be playing Beethoven's 3rd Piano Concerto.  An exciting contemporary start to this programme will be provided by ’A Short Ride in a Fast Machine' by John Adams.   The season will come to a fitting finale with Richard Strauss's great tone poem 'Ein Heldenleben'.

Season tickets are on sale at £33; £52 and £66 available from the Membership Secretaries on 01622 736392.   Copies of the season brochure can be obtained from Ron Hegarty, General Secretary, on 01580 892060. Visit our website at: www.mso.org.uk to keep up to date with our musical activities.
