Painting All Saints Bell Frame

For almost a year now the All Saints bell-ringers have been undertaking the mammoth task of re-painting the framework which holds the ring of ten bells.

This is no small undertaking and luckily does not have to be done too often! The last time it was re-painted was in the 1970’s by Tom and Lily Cullingworth.

The total weight of the 10 bells is nearly six tons and consequently the framework is massive and hence the timescale in doing this work.

The actual painting is nearly one third complete, the frame around the bigger bells is now complete and this is where the work gets a bit more fiddly as the smaller bells have smaller spaces to work in.

The frame was a light shade of green but the now completed parts look very resplendent in Royal blue with the Headstocks (the metal part that the bells are bolted onto) are now a nice shade of deep red.

If anyone feels they would like to come and lend a hand up in the tower we meet every first Sunday in the month at 9.30am until about 12 noon and any help would be so much appreciated.
