Tools  With  A  Mission

In 1978 Jack Norwood, a deacon at Belle Vue Baptist Church in Southend, was asked to head up a project making incubators. This was followed by a request for solar powered incubators and Jack went out to Zaire for a year(79/80). Out of this came a vision to form a workshop which, in time, became the missionary support workshop. In 1981 John Bennett saw a need to support the work of the Baptist Missionary Society, using Operation Agri as a channel, collecting and refurbishing tools that had no further use in the U K.  Being a teacher, John asked his students to repair and refurbish old tools as part of an educational project. Tools were soon being collected and sent off to places that need them. further developments followed and T W A M became a charity in its own right in 1999. In 2002  almost 80 tonnes of tools were packed and sent to Christian projects worldwide. This figure has already been reached this year and a target of a hundred tonnes should be reached very soon.

Tools are sorted, repaired and refurbished by volunteers. Even tools beyond repair can be sold for scrap to cover transport costs. The next shipment is due to go in November. People across the world who have survived war, famine, poverty, injustice, flood, man-made or natural disasters ( the news is full of them ) are ready to work to help themselves. We can help by sorting out our sheds and workshops for unwanted tools etc. a list of which is available in each of our churches. Please place any unwanted tools in the boxes provided at the back  of our churches. Collection can be arranged for large items by ringing 01622 762158. Please remember this worthwhile charity in your prayers.

I look forward to your generosity in this venture. Why not make this the reason you need to have a good sort out. Please ask your friends and neighbours to support us. Thank you on behalf of all the people supported by T W A M. All tools need to be in church by October 12th.
