Denise
is honoured The
retiring collection from two of All Saints Lunchtime
Concert this year was donated to Maidstone Alzheimers
Society a total of £210.00. The
Alzheimers Society has now honoured Denise Lintern,
who runs the Maidstone branch, for her outstanding
contribution to the society at an awards ceremony at
Warwick University. Denise
was asked to attend the event with her wheelchair bound
husband Stan who has suffered with dementia for eight
years and is looked after by Denise. As
well as this, Denise, who has three sons and a grandson,
runs the Maidstone branch telephone helpline for the
society from her home in valley Drive. This
valuable service operates seven days a week, providing
support day and night for people suffering
with dementia and to their families. Denise
also organises monthly tea parties, outings and events
for the branch so those involved with the society can get
back into socialising again. Denise
said It feels funny to be thanked for something I
want to do but I couldnt do it without the support
I get from the committee, friends and family. Alzheimers
is a horrible illness and is something you wouldnt
want anybody to get. It affects the whole family, so if I
can lift peoples spirits in any way, then thats
great. To
show their appreciation of Denise at the ceremony, the
society presented her with a framed certificate, an
engraved plaque and a bouquet of flowers. In
addition, Denise attended a reception at St. James
Palace, London, where she and Stan met Princess Alexandra. Anyone
affected by Alzheimers can call the helpline 01622
749539. Story
