Ex-All Saints Choirboy nearly drops in on mum

Ex-All Saints choirboy Karl Weston dropped in to see his mother the other day. Not literally, but it was good to see her, he said.

Karl, now Lt. K Weston RN, a member of the helicopter flight team on HMS Endurance, was part of a Royal Navy Recruiting team that called in to Maidstone Grammar School in the ship’s Lynx helicopter.

As the helicopter flew over Maidstone to the school he just could not resist diverting by a couple of streets to pass over his mother’s house.

Mrs Trish Weston, forewarned, waved to her son as he passed overhead.

The couple made contact later, when Karl and his colleagues from 212 Flight had spoken to the boys at the school about life in the Navy.

He told them that HMS Endurance spends about seven months a year in the South Atlantic as a survey ship. At the end of a tour of duty they call in at either one of the South American or South African countries before heading home.
